The manufacturing sector is the region's third largest employer. For every $1.00 that goes into manufacturing, another $1.48 is added to the economy, the highest multiplier effect of any economic sector. Check out these interesting statistics from the Department of Labor:- 17,000 advanced manufacturing jobs will open through 2020.
- 5,000 of them will be seven critical manufacturing roles:
- CNC machinist
- Quality Assurance Inspector
- Industrial Electrician
- Welder
- Industrial Maintenance Mechanic
- Electro-Mechanical Technician
- Production Manager - Many manufacturing training programs have 100% placement.
- The average manufacturing worker in WNY earned $71,624, including pay and benefits in 2011. The average worker in all industries earned $50,800.
Health and Life Sciences:
Thanks to the expansion of Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, the 120 acre-site has created a huge employment growth in the medical sector. With continuing expansion planned, the field will continue to grow!- Currently, there are 12,000 employees at the BNMC, up from 7,000 in 2002. By 2016, projections are more than 17,000.
- The campus hosts Roswell Cancer Institute, Buffalo General Hospital, the University at Buffalo's Clinical and Translational Research Center, the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute, and Kaleida Health's recently completed Gates Vascular Institute.
- In the next several years, Women's and Children's Hospital, a UB medical school, Catholic Health System's headquarters will be built, along with an expansion of Roswell Park Cancer Institute and much more.
